URBES Rotterdam

If current trends continue, by 2050 70% of the world’s population will live in cities and knowing that cities will grow both in number and surface, it is time to recognize the city as a natural ecosystem. In order to meet human needs now and in the future, nature-based and innovative solutions are essential for a sustainable future for cities all over the planet.

The URBES – Urban Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services partnership develops ideas, tools and knowledge that is shared and co-created with cities in Europe. It will support local governments to increase their professional skills to manage nature at local level and to integrate its values in urban policies, plans and actions. Cities will have a major role in shaping a sustainable future by developing creative solutions and involving citizens.
